The City of Ontario, Division of Police is currently hiring for the position of full-time Police Officer.  The selection process will utilize a Lateral Entry hiring process to establish an eligibility list for hire.  The selection process will begin with the screening of applicants to ensure they have met the minimum qualifications through the Civil Service Board. Applicants will then continue in the process and will undergo a scored interview(s).  The Minimum qualifications to apply are:

  1. Candidates must be a commissioned Ohio Peace Officer with at least one year of full-time experience as a Peace Officer.
  2. Candidates must also be at least 21 years of age; have a High School Diploma or GED; and must possess a valid Ohio Driver’s License.

Prior to appointment, candidates must submit and successfully pass a background investigation, truth verification test, drug screen, a physical and psychological examination. The current starting salary range for this position is $27.17 to $32.86 with extra income possibilities of overtime and paid details. The City of Ontario offers an excellent benefit package. Lateral Transfers will start one step lower than their current pay step, if currently employed as a full-time law enforcement officer and will be brought to their current pay step after 6 months.  More information at
